How It Works

How Is Your Due Date Calculated?

📅

Naegele's Rule

The standard method used by Irish GPs and maternity hospitals. Adds 280 days (40 weeks) to the first day of your last period, assuming a 28-day cycle.

🔄

Cycle Adjustment

If your cycle is longer or shorter than 28 days, we adjust the due date accordingly. A 35-day cycle pushes the due date 7 days later than the standard calculation.

🏥

Dating Scan Confirms

Your GP will refer you for a dating scan at 10–14 weeks. This is the most accurate way to confirm your due date and is free under the Irish maternity care system.

💡

Irish Tip: Register with your maternity hospital early

As soon as you get a positive pregnancy test, contact your GP. They will refer you to your local maternity hospital — the Rotunda, Coombe, National Maternity Hospital (Dublin), Cork University Maternity Hospital, or University Hospital Galway. Early registration is essential to secure your booking.
